Autism Evaluations for Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults
-
At Kay Developmental, Dr. Shannon Kay provides comprehensive autism evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults throughout Massachusetts. Evaluations are designed to help families better understand strengths, challenges, and the supports that may be beneficial at home, in school, and within the community.
Every individual is unique. An evaluation goes beyond simply determining whether diagnostic criteria are met by providing practical recommendations that families can use moving forward.
-
You may wish to pursue an evaluation if your child or young adult experiences:
Difficulty with social interactions or making friends
Delayed language or communication skills
Repetitive behaviors or restricted interests
Sensory sensitivities
Difficulty adapting to changes in routine
Challenges understanding social cues
Concerns raised by teachers, therapists, or healthcare providers
Early identification can help families access appropriate supports and services.
-
Evaluations are tailored to each individual's needs and may include:
Review of developmental and medical history
Parent and caregiver interviews
Standardized assessment measures
Direct observation and clinical evaluation
Cognitive and Developmental Testing
ADOS-2 administration when clinically appropriate
Review of previous records when available
-
Families receive a detailed written report explaining findings and providing individualized recommendations for educational planning, therapies, accommodations, and community resources.
Follow-up consultation is available to review results and answer questions.
